JONESBORO - Ten former Arkansas State football players, including 2008 All-Sun Belt Conference selections David Johnson, Ben Owens, Dominique Williams and Kevin Jones, worked out for scouts from six NFL Franchises at ASU's 2009 "Pro Day" Tuesday morning.
The event began shortly after 9:00 a.m. at the ASU Football Facility weight room, where the scouts put the players through a number of tests that included vertical jump, standing long jump and bench press. The scouts conducted shuttle drills, speed times and put the players through passing, receiving and defensive drills during the on-field testing.
"Obviously, we've had several players that have made it to the next level the last several years," said ASU Head Coach Steve Roberts. "Today is a big day for many of our players as they have an opportunity to run, lift and show the scouts where they are measurement wise. This gives them another opportunity to get a look for the next level."
Eight seniors from last year's team were in attendance, including Johnson, Owens, Williams, Jones, Vernon Catlin, Travis Hewitt, Richard Neal and Brett Shrable. Darren Toney, who signed a rookie free agent contract in 2008 with the Carolina Panthers, and former ASU running back Antonio Warren also worked out for the pro scouts.
