JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - February's housing numbers have been released and the news, for most counties, was not good.
For new and existing homes, numbers showed a 30% drop from February compared to the previous year in Craighead County (62 were sold in Feb. 2009 compared to 88 in Feb. 2008).
For some counties like Izard, the relatively small number of units sold seemed like a success when looking at the percentage, with a 40% increase, but that number represents only 7 sold this year compared to 5 the previous February.
Home sale prices were a different story, however. In Craighead County, the average home sale price was $140,589 this year, representing a 1.6% drop from the previous year, or about $2,300 less. In Greene County, sale price averages actually went up from $80,005 in February, 2008 to $96,043 for this February. That is a 20% jump.
