Tennessee's Pat Summitt honored for impact, wins

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Pat Summitt has been named recipient of the WNBA's Inspiring Coach Award.

The award, announced Tuesday, recognizes her impact on female athletes and commitment to her work, family and community. Summitt will be presented with the award at a later date during the 2009 WNBA season.

Summitt was also honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on Monday for achieving her 1,000th win during the 2008-09 season.

She was presented with the Russell Athletic/WBCA Victory Club Award, which is given to each women's coach when they achieve century milestone wins. Summmitt is the all-time winningest coach with 1,005 wins.
