State park is site of controlled burn

JACKSON, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Department of Conservation is burning 1,300 acres of land at Trail of Tears State Park in southeast Missouri.

The fire on Wednesday is designed to encourage new growth and control the amount of fuel available to wildfires.

The department asked drivers to use extra caution around the park in Jackson, and to avoid blocking traffic in the area.
