CINCINNATI (AP) - Cincinnati avoided a 3-game sweep with an 8-6 matinee victory over the New York Mets. Joey Votto (VAHT'-oh) had a three-run homer and collected four RBIs for the winner.

TORONTO (AP) - Toronto topped Detroit 6-2 to take the season-opening 4-game series 3-1. Ricky Romero outpitched Rick Porcello in the first matchup of former first-round draft picks making their major league debuts against each other.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Jarrod Washburn gave up five hits over eight innings of the Seattle Mariners' 2-0 shutout of the Minnesota Twins. It's the left-hander's first win since July 27.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Davidson junior guard Stephen Curry is still undecided on whether to leave school for the NBA. The father of the nation's leading scorer, former NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry, indicates a decision could come next week. The deadline to declare for the draft is April 26.

CLEVELAND (AP) - The NBA's Cavaliers are filling the roster spot left open by the loss of injured Eric Snow by re-signing forward Jawad Williams, who played in nine games for Cleveland earlier this season. Williams played in 19 games for Rio Grande of the NBA's Development League after his second 10-day contract with Cleveland expired in February, averaging 25.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
