Sports Minute: Day 2 play in Augusta...Heavyhearted Angels...Lakers pull even with Cavs in win column

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Round 2 of the Masters is under way at Augusta National, where Chad Campbell grabbed the first-round lead by opening with a 7-under-par 65. Hunter Mahan and Jim Fyurk matched 66s and were tied for second after 18 holes.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels return to the diamond this evening for the first time since 22-year-old pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a car crash early yesterday morning. They'll take on the visiting Boston Red Sox. Last night's home game against Oakland was postponed in the wake of the tragedy.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kobe Bryant scored 33 points and Pau Gasol added 27 points and 19 rebounds in the L.A. Lakers' 116-102 win over visiting Denver that tied Cleveland for the league lead at 63 victories. The Cavaliers return from a night off to face the 76ers in Philadelphia this evening while the Lakers are on the road at Portland.

(AP) - The Rangers and Canadiens locked up the final two playoff spots in the NHL East, eliminating Florida and Buffalo in the process. New York beat Philadelphia 2-1 and Montreal earned their required point in a 5-4 overtime loss in Boston.

MIAMI (AP) - A 12-person jury in Miami is expected to begin deliberations this afternoon, after closing arguments conclude in the six-week tax evasion trial of Brazilian race car driver Helio Castroneves and two co-defendants. The 2-time Indy 500 winner, his sister-business manager and his lawyer could get more than six years in prison if convicted.
