Red Wolves bowling team loses to Nebraska

CANTON, Mi - The Arkansas State Red Wolves lost a close fought contest to the Nebraska bowling team Friday.  

Only one of the top four seeds claimed a victory in the upset-heavy first round of the double elimination NCAA Women's Bowling Championships at Super Bowl in Canton, MI.

Top-seeded Nebraska needed all seven games to advance past defending NCAA® runner-up Arkansas State winning 4-3. The game scores: 147-191, 190-153, 144-234, 190-170, 169-239, 205-197, and 202-170.

Arkansas State will tangle with Vanderbilt University next.

Vanderbilt entered the tournament ranked number one in the polls, but after earning the #4 seed in yesterday's qualifying rounds fell to Fairleigh Dickinson University in seven games 4-2-1.

In another first round upset, #6 Central Missouri swept defending national champion #3 University of Maryland Eastern Shore 4-0.

To close out the opening round surprises, #7 Delaware State University knocked off #2 New Jersey City University 4-3 in comeback fashion after falling behind three games to one.
