MURFREESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A canary diamond weighing 2.04 carats has been dubbed the "Easter Sunrise Diamond" by the Springdale man who found it Thursday at Crater of Diamonds State Park.
Glenn Worthington said he was rinsing gravel from the public search area at the park when he spotted the diamond atop a screen that lets water and tiny dirt particles through while trapping larger objects.
The Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only source of diamonds in the U.S., and the world's only diamond-producing site open to the public.
Worthington and his wife, Cindy, say they don't plan to cut or sell the diamond.
He said he dubbed the gem the Easter Sunrise Diamond when he saw it glowing in the screen full of gravel.
