Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) -The Make-A-Wish organization is sending one Region 8 child to a place where dreams come true--Disney World.
With the help of the Sam's Club of Jonesboro and donations raised from the Have a Heart Wish-a-thon from February, Make-a-Wish volunteers were able to surprise the child with her wish granted.
Twelve-year-old Jaya Gramling was led on a scavenger hunt throughout Sam's club on Sunday. While searching for Hannah Montana gear and other random finds, Jaya was getting closer and closer to the finish line. Once she walked through the doors to discover her prize, Jaya realized what had been done, and shared an emotional hug with Make-A-Wish volunteer Lori Fitts.
"She is one amazing person," Lori Fitts explains, " and seeing her walk through the door today with her smile on her face just makes the whole thing worth it."
Jaya has been suffering with cystic fibrosis since she was four months old. Her daily routine involves treatments twice a day along with medicine. Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. The predicted average age of survival for someone suffering with this disease is 37 years old. There are 1,000 new cases of CF reported every year.
"Children should not have to go to hospitals and do medical things all the time," Lori Fitts explains, "They should just get to have fun. That's what kids are for."
Thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundation, Sam's Club, and the support of her family and friends, Jaya and her family will be having their fun. They will be leaving for Disney World in two weeks.
