WATERLOO, Ill. (AP) - The family of a Metro East woman found strangled in her home with her two sons is suing her husband, who's already charged in the killings.
Attorneys for Sheri Coleman's mother and brother filed the wrongful-death lawsuit today in Monroe County. That's where Christopher Coleman has been jailed since being charged with first-degree murder in the May 5 killings.
Prosecutors contend Coleman strangled Sheri Coleman and their sons in the bedrooms of their Columbia home two weeks before his arrest. He's pleaded not guilty.
Attorneys say the lawsuit is meant at least partly to keep Chris Coleman from selling the home.
The lawyers separately were granted a temporary restraining order allowing Sheri Coleman's relatives access to the home, which they sought so the family could collect photos and other personal items.
