ST. LOUIS (AP) - Albert Pujols credits his high-top spikes for avoiding injury following an awkward slide.
The St. Louis Cardinals' star got his foot caught in the dirt legging out an RBI double in the first inning of Monday's 5-3 loss to the Reds and slid late into second, appearing to hurt his right ankle. After a visit by trainers and manager Tony La Russa, Pujols decided to stay in the game.
Pujols said the high-top support was just enough protection to avoid injury, and that after a few minutes he was moving fine. He also promised he'd be in the lineup Tuesday night.
