Two Trojan women qualify for Public Links Championship
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - UALR junior Mallory Fraiche and freshman Britny Bauburger have earned spots in the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. The two played qualifying rounds yesterday at Magellan Golf Course in Hot Springs.
Fraiche finished in first place among qualifiers with a one-under par 71, while Brauburger took third with a 79.
Both players now plan to travel to Devens, Mass., where the U.S. Womens Amateur Public Links Championship will be held June 22-27 at Red Tail Golf Club.
Naturals lose, Travelers win
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Results were mixed for Arkansas's two Texas League teams yesterday.
At Midland, Texas, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals lost to Midland 16-8. The two teams face each other again today on the Rockhounds' home field.
The Arkansas Travelers are also visiting Texas, but they had more success yesterday, topping Corpus Christi 4-1. They also play again today at Corpus Christi.
Former Arkansas player, Texas coach to be in Conway
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Football fans in central Arkansas will get a chance to see a former Razorback tomorrow.
Former Arkansas player Fred Akers, also a former head coach for the Texas Longhorns, is to be inducted into the Arkansas Boys State Hall of Fame in a ceremony tomorrow. The ceremony is planned for the University of Central Arkansas campus where Boys State is gathering this week.
The event is scheduled for 2 p.m.
UALR signs five to play for Trojans next year
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas-Little Rock women's volleyball team has added five players for the upcoming season.
Jennifer Elbert, a 5-6 defensive specialist, transfers to UALR from Jefferson College where she earned all-conference and all-region honors.
Katharina Nobel, a 6-4 middle blocker, transfers to UALR from Lindsey Wilson College where she averaged 2.52 kills totaling 238.
A Brazilian, Daniele Souza Moura, a 5-9 defensive specialist, graduated from Colegio Aplicacao where she played volleyball. She helped her team become Finasa Champions in 2005 and 2007.
The Trojans signed two student-athletes from Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans -- Emily Pepperman and Paige Gantar. Both are natives of Metairie, La. who earned all-state honors this past season.
