Fort Smith Southside standout to join Red Wolves

JONESBORO, Ar - Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced that Fort Smith Southside's John Koch has enrolled at Arkansas State and will join the Red Wolves baseball team next fall.

Koch, a 6-1, 175-pound right-hander, tied his own school record in 2009 with 96 strikeouts to lead the Rebels to a Class 7A state runner-up finish.  Koch finished the year at 8-2 and posted a career record of 16-5 at Southside.  He finished the 2009 season with an ERA of 1.29, giving up just 13 earned runs in 70 innings of work.

Koch walked only 29 batters on the year and threw six complete games with one shutout.  He also recorded a pair of saves on the season and held opposing batters to a .196 average.  He earned All-State honors and was named to the Class 7A All-State Tournament team and the AHSCA All-Star team following the 2009 season.
