3 Mulerider baseball players on All-America teams

MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - Three players on the Southern Arkansas baseball team have been chosen for the final All-America baseball teams of the 2009 season. Both the American Baseball Coaches Association and National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association released their teams yesterday.

Starting pitcher Hayden Simpson and second baseman Cannon Lester are repeats on the first team of the coaches group. Simpson was a unanimous pick for the baseball writer's first team, Lester was a second team selection, and shortstop Andrew Whittington made the third team.

Kerth is first-team pick for ESPN The Magazine academic all-district honors

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - UALR cross country runner Whitney Kerth has been chosen for a second year in a row for first team Academic All-District honors by ESPN The Magazine. Kerth is the first UALR cross country athlete of either sex to earn four NCAA All-Region honors and ten career Sun Belt Conference runner of the week honors.

Kerth was the only student-athlete from the Sun Belt Conference to be honored.

Wide receiver for Arkansas Twisters signs with New Orleans Saints

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Wide receiver Rod Harper of the Arkansas Twisters Arena Football 2 team has signed an NFL contract to play for the New Orleans Saints.

Harper, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound Murray State product, follows Reggie Swinton as the second Twister to go from AF2 to the NFL.

Harpers 275 yards receiving and seven receiving touchdowns set team single-game records this past week against Corpus Christi. His receiving-yards total also tied the third highest single-game effort in league history.

Harper currently leads the AF2 in a number of categories, including scoring (228 points), total touchdowns (38) and receiving touchdowns (38). He is also tied for the league lead in receptions (107) and ranks second in receiving yards (1,375).
