Arkansas' Bolsinger quiets Fla. State in 7-2 win
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Mike Bolsinger threw five scoreless innings and Arkansas scored 4 of its runs without a hit to defeat Florida State 7-2 in the opener of a super regional tournament game that took over nine hours to complete Friday because of rain delays.
Florida State (45-17) must win two straight games to return to the College World Series for a second straight year.
Bolsinger (6-4) fanned six and scattered four hits after replacing starter Dallas Keuchel.
The Razorbacks took a 5-2 lead in the seventh, scoring three runs without a hit as Florida State reliever Geoff Parker (6-2) walked three and hit a batter before getting an out.
Arkansas (38-22) took advantage of 3 Seminoles errors in the eighth to boost its lead to 7-2.
Keith Jackson Jr. arrested on drug charges
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Former Arkansas Razorback Keith Jackson Jr. was arrested on suspicion of felony drug charges after he was found in an apartment with marijuana, cocaine and Ecstasy.
Prosecutors in Little Rock District Court said Friday that Jackson was found inside an apartment that had 2 pounds of marijuana, 1 gram of cocaine and about 50 tablets of Ecstasy. Three others were arrested at the apartment, and police said two minor children were at the house when police executed the search warrant.
Jackson, who is 24, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, cocaine and Ecstasy with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of another's property. Twenty-2-year-old Marvin Johnson of Little Rock was arrested on the same charges.
Police also arrested the pair who lived in the apartment_ 27-year-old David Adams and 24-year-old Lacanna Smith - on the same drug charges, as well as maintaining a drug premises and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Jackson, a defensive tackle, is the son of Keith Jackson. The elder Jackson was a star tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1980s and '90s, along with Miami and Green Bay. The younger Jackson was drafted by the St. Louis Rams.
'Idol' winner Kris Allen to perform at NBA finals
NEW YORK (AP) - "American Idol" winner Kris Allen of Conway is taking part in a fiercely contested competition watched by millions, but this time, he'll have nothing to do with the outcome.
Allen is scheduled to sing the national anthem tomorrow before Game 2 of the National Basketball Association finals on ABC. The Los Angeles Lakers have a 1-0 lead over the Orlando Magic.
Having "American Idol" winners sing during the basketball championship series has become something of a tradition. Every winner has done it, with the exception of Fantasia.
Allen won the "Idol" crown last month over Adam Lambert.
4 women, 1 man from Razorback track program honored for academics
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Four members of the Arkansas Razorbacks women's track and field team have been honored by selection to the Academic All-District team selected by ESPN The Magazine, along with a single member of the men's team.
Denise Bargiachi, Tara Diebold, Katie Stripling and Catherine White were honored among the women's track athletes.
Honored from the men's ranks was Dorian Ulrey.
