ST. LOUIS (AP) - Brett Wallace's presence on the roster at AAA Memphis is a clear indication the St. Louis Cardinals are happy about last year's first-round draft pick. Four others from last year's class are playing at the AA level including 39th-round pick Curt Smith.
The Cardinals will try to stock the pipeline again beginning Tuesday night with the 19th overall pick in the 3-day draft.
The Cardinals are putting much greater emphasis on developing organizational depth. The majority of the team's lineups are frequently filled with players from the farm system. The lone import on Sunday was third baseman Joe Thurston, signed as a minor league free agent this winter.
