In his first American competition this year, Daly comes up flat in Open qualifying

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - John Daly makes his return to the PGA Tour this week. His return to the U.S. Open will have to wait.

Daly managed only four birdies over 36 holes in a U.S. Open qualifier on Monday and didn't come close to getting 1 of the 13 spots available in Tennessee. He had a 1-under 70 in the morning at Ridgewood and a 2-over 73 in the afternoon at Germantown.

The PGA Tour has lifted its six-month suspension of Daly, who will tee it up Thursday at the St. Jude Classic. He won't be going to the U.S. Open, but he said the 36-hole qualifier helped him make the transition from playing in Europe.
