$19.9 million bid wins Reelfoot Lake work

UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A $19.9 million bid has apparently won the contract to build a new spillway and bridge at Reelfoot Lake in West Tennessee.

Dement Construction of Jackson bid the lowest of 3 companies for the work. The sealed bids will be reviewed and the contract will be awarded within 30 days.

According to the Union City Daily Messenger, the target date for completion of construction is Sept. 30, 2011. The new complex will feature a spillway and a bridge as separate structures that will replace the current structure built in the early 1930s. Currently it's a combination 20-gate spillway and two-lane bridge on State Route 21 on the south shore of the lake.
