ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to contract terms with 3 of their top five draft picks on Wednesday: second-rounder Robert Stock, third-rounder Joseph Kelly and fifth-rounder Ryan Jackson.
Negotiations with first-round pick Shelby Miller of Brownwood, Texas, might not be quite so tidy, despite initial statements that he was ready to sign and ignore a commitment to Texas A&M. Jeff Luhnow, the team's director of player personnel, said his first conversation with Miller's agent was all business.
Stock caught and pitched at Southern California and will begin his professional career behind the plate. Kelly is a righthanded pitcher from California-Riverside and Jackson is a shortstop from Miami.
