Alligator season being planned

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The proposed dates for alligator hunting season in south Arkansas include two sessions in September.

Though the hunts still need final approval, they are tentatively set to take place from 30 minutes after sunset on Friday, Sept. 18 until 30 minutes before sunrise on Monday, Sept. 22 and from 30 minutes after sunset on Friday, Sept. 25 until 30 minutes before sunrise on Monday, Sept. 28.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says field crews have been conducting spotlight surveys in parts of south Arkansas to get an idea of where the alligators are and how many.

The hunt still needs approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Then the dates will have to be formalized by the Game and Fish Commission.
