ST. LOUIS (AP) - Khalil Greene was eased back into action by the St. Louis Cardinals, striking out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night.
Manager Tony La Russa said the infielder will get more playing time in a 3-game interleague series at Kansas City starting Friday night. Greene had been on the 15-day disabled list since May 29 for social anxiety disorder before being activated Thursday.
Greene was batting .198 with two homers, 14 RBIs and a team-high seven errors at shortstop. He's likely to get more playing time at third base, given the Cardinals need fill-ins for injured Troy Glaus and have two shortstops already in Brendan Ryan and Tyler Greene.
