Concerts teach young ballplayers about jazz

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis is offering two concerts to teach young ballplayers about jazz.

On Wednesday and Thursday nights, the outreach arm of the St. Louis Cardinals and the concert hall will teach kids in the Redbird Rookies program about similarities between jazz and baseball.

Those parallels include practice, improvisation and teamwork.

The Jeff Anderson Quintet will play songs by jazz greats, while Cardinals mascot Fredbird takes part.

The Redbird Rookies program teaches kids about baseball, but encourages off-the-field growth in areas like health, education and the arts.
