Arkansas hires Larabee as softball coach

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Mike Larabee has been hired as Arkansas' new softball coach.

Larabee recently finished his fifth season as Wright State's coach. He took his team to the NCAA tournament in 2007 and 2008.

Larabee said Arkansas has "all the ingredients for a nationally competitive program."

Jamie Pinkerton, Arkansas' previous coach, resigned in May after going 130-179 in his five seasons with the Razorbacks. Arkansas went 27-29 last season and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year.

Larabee is a 2-time U.S. national team pool coach. He becomes the third person to coach the Arkansas program, which was launched in 1997.
