Blues take defenseman in first round

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Blues selected a defenseman in the first round of the NHL draft Friday night, taking 18-year-old David Rundblad of Lycksele, Sweden.

It's the third time in four years the Blues picked a defenseman in the first round. St. Louis has five picks in the 2-day draft.

The 6-2, 189-pound Rundblad competed in the Swedish Elite League last season and had 10 assists in 45 games. He helped Sweden win a silver medal in the 2009 World Junior Championships, finishing with a plus-3 rating with a goal and an assist in six games.

NHL Central Scouting ranked Rundblad sixth among all European skaters.
