Marshall County creek contaminated by landfill

LEWISBURG, Tenn. (AP) - State environmental officials say leakage from a landfill is contaminating Vickery Creek in Marshall County.

State officials said tests show high levels of chlorides and ammonia, which can affect aquatic life and livestock. According to The Daily Herald of Columbia, drinking water does not appear to be affected.

The landfill is operated by Waste Management Inc. In a letter to property owners, the company said it is trying to identify the leak's source. A section of pipeline has already been shut down.
