Theft charges against Arkansas' Askew dismissed
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A Washington County prosecutor says felony theft of property charges against Arkansas football player Lavunce Askew have been dropped.
Chief Deputy Prosecutor Matt Durrett says the victim asked that charges not be pressed against Askew. The 20-year-old sophomore defensive tackle from Camden was arrested May 30 and charged with stealing a laptop computer that authorities said is worth about $1,300.
Durrett told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that shortly after Askew's arrest, the victim signed an affidavit saying the incident was a misunderstanding. Durrett says the victim said in the affidavit that he got everything back from Askew.
Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino suspended Askew indefinitely from the team after the player's arrest.
