Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) -- Construction is expected to get underway this week for Nordex USA's first United States manufacturing plant, according to globenewswire.com.
The plant is expected to employ more than 700 people. Nordex is a leading manufacturer of wind turbines. The 100 million dollar investment in the city, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin says, will bring something cutting edge to the Jonesboro Technology Park, that is globally talked about.
"Nordex itself, the name and the type of industry that it is, I think that's going to help Jonesboro recruit other companies to our area," said Perrin.
Mayor Perrin says having such a diverse group of thriving industries proves the city of Jonesboro has what companies are looking for--from its location to labor force.
"We've got all of that in one basket, and once you've got something like that, you've got something you can go sell," said Perrin.
With the variety of industries and jobs, the mayor says selling Jonesboro is not hard. In fact, he says with each new business planting roots here, it motivates them to work for even more.
"We just continually go back and work and try to get another one. That's what we're going to be doing all of the time is just constantly looking for new job opportunities," said Perrin.
The Nordex plant is expected to be discussed at Tuesday night's city council meeting. Region 8 news will be at the meeting, and will bring you a full report.
