Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - City Water and Light started "Project Double Green" on March 1, 2009.  They plan to run it through August 2010. The program helps you save money while protecting the environment at the same time. Adam Saulsbury of City Water and Light says a rebate is available to their customers.

Saulsbury said, "It's a program that we are offering for CWL Electric customers.  A chance to replace their heating and cooling equipment and us give them a rebate for that.  It's for air conditioners, for electric heat pumps, for dual fuel heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps and geothermal water heaters."

There is a different rebate amount depending on which one you decide to install.  On the other hand it doesn't take long before you receive your rebate.

Saulsbury said, "Once somebody fills out the application and it's all correctly and completely filled out by them and the licensed heat and air contractor, we like to have that turned around in about 30 days."

Saulsbury says the program will help in more ways than one. "Not only does it help them get equipment that helps them save energy and lower their utility bills, but as a whole it helps all the rate payers.  Because we're able to basically put off having to get and buy energy in the future, which keeps our rates low."

If you can't afford to do this, don't forget there are several things you can do that are energy efficient: turn up your thermostat; use energy saving light bulbs; and don't forget, check for cracks around windows or doors.
