Orphaned Wyo. grizzly bear cubs heading to Memphis

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Three orphaned Wyoming grizzly bear cubs are heading to the Memphis Zoo.

Matt Thompson is curator of mammals at the zoo. He says the Wyoming cubs will go into a new exhibit called Teton Trek opening in October. He says two more orphaned grizzly cubs are coming from Alaska this fall.

Thompson says the Teton Trek exhibit will give visitors a sense of Wyoming's Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. He says the exhibits also will feature elk, wolves and waterfowl.

A man walking north of the town of Clark in northern Wyoming killed the grizzly cubs' mother with a handgun on Sunday.

Authorities aren't releasing the man's name. He remains hospitalized in Billings, Mont., with facial injuries and broken ribs from the encounter.
