Mo. gov. to compete in basketball at state event

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon plans to compete this weekend in the basketball competition at the 25th annual Show-Me State Games.

The 53-year-old governor is set to play Saturday in the basketball skills contest in the seniors category with others 50 and older. The competition focuses on free-throw and perimeter shooting. It will be at the Hearnes Center in Columbia.

Thousands of people are expected to participate in the Show-Me State Games this year. The competition started July 17 and is held at sites in Columbia, Jefferson City and Springfield.
