JONESBORO (7/23/09) - Over 125 women were in attendance for the Arkansas State football program's Third Annual Women's Football Clinic, sponsored by J&SRestaurant Group, held Thursday evening at ASU Stadium with the Red Wolves' coaching staff.
All proceeds from the event went to benefit the ASUTickets for Kids program. The event began with a 5:00 p.m. dinner catered by Triple E Catering and introductions from ASU Head Football Coach Steve Roberts.
"We are very excited that this event has sold out for the third consecutive year," said ASU Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions Gleen Hart. "We are very thankful for all the area vendors to make this event possible. It is an excellent opportunity to educate the women of the surrounding community and introduce them to Red Wolves football."
Following dinner, the women broke into groups to meet with position coaches to watch video footage and learn basic rules and strategies of football. They also learned about formations, equipment and several other aspects of college football. Following the meetings, the clinic participants went on a tour of the football complex before hitting the ASU practice fields.
The women went through different stations on the field to practice passing, receiving, kicking, tackling and blocking drills. Participants also got the chance to participate in a punt, pass and kick competition. Prizes such as gift certificates from area businesses and tickets and apparel from ASU Athletics were given to many of the attendees and a grand prize that one participant won was a 19-inch flat screen TV. Each participant also received a Red Wolves thermos mug.
The ASU football team kicks off its 2009 season at home against Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 5 at ASU Stadium. Season tickets for ASU's five home games are on sale at the ASU Ticket Office.
