Dog Gone: Owner of Tasered Dog Bypasses Court, Let's His Attorney Do the Talking

UPDATE: LAKEWOOD, OH (WOIO) - Yet another court date for the owner of a dog tasered by Lakewood cops.

Daniel Kier - who faces charges for letting his dog run loose - did not appear in court on Tuesday morning. Rather, he let his attorney do the talking and had him fax over a letter with a not guilty plea.

Kier is slated for a pre-trial hearing on August 25th at 1:30PM.

Trouble started after Kier's dog, Otis, was tasered by Lakewood cops.

Otis was finally sprung from the Lakewood Animal Shelter around 1PM Monday afternoon. The shelter had been the pup's home since he was tasered by Lakewood police over a week ago.

Monday, a morning meeting was held to determine whether Otis is a vicious animal. The original meeting was slated for last Thursday but was postponed because the officers involved in the tasing were unable to attend.

The incident was captured on the cop's taser camera and has sparked outrage nationwide.

Police noticed Otis was without his owner, Daniel Kier, and was loose on the sidewalk at Robin & Plover. They claim they tasered Otis because he's a pit bull and was acting aggressively towards them.

Kier maintains Otis is a white Boxer, not a pit bull. Pit bulls are banned in Lakewood.

19 Action News has learned Kier and the city struck a deal. The city wants Otis out of the city so Otis will be housed with Lighthouse Boxer Rescue until Kier can move out of his Lakewood apartment into a new place. He hopes to make that happen within two weeks.

Kier also agreed not to sue the City of Lakewood.

In exchange, the charge of having a vicious dog was dropped. However, Kier still faces the other charge of letting a dog run loose.

19 Action News has received thousands of comments on this story from around the country and even as far as Mexico and Canada. We want to hear from you. Are you pleased with the outcome of the vicious dog hearing or do you wish Otis could just go back to his home in Lakewood?

PETITION has also been launched to urge people to boycott the city of Lakewood.
