LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas and Arkansas State each say they have a player on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award. It's given each year to the top running back in Division I. The watch list includes Michael Smith of Arkansas and Reggie Arnold of Arkansas State.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas-Monticello's football team has been picked to finish fourth this year in the Gulf South Conference in a pre-season poll of coaches. It was followed by Arkansas Tech, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist. Southern Arkansas came in at No. 10.

JACKSONVILLLE, Fla. (AP) - Arkansas-Monticello says former wide receiver Clarence Denmark has been signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Denmark was signed as a rookie free agent and is participating in the Jaguar's pre-season training camp.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Activities Association has rejected a proposal that could have created separate state playoffs for private high schools. The group's board voted against the plan yesterday but passed a rule limiting transfer eligibility at private schools.
