Bookouts Go To Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Senator Jerry Bookout and his son, Representative Paul Bookout are both serving in the Legislature this session.

Having the two Democrats from Jonesboro in the Capitol marks the first time in recent memory that a father and son have served in the Legislature during the same session. Senator Jerry Bookout is back at the Capitol after ending 24 years in the Senate in 1996 for family reasons.

Representative Paul Bookout is in his third and final term in the House. The Bookouts share interests beyond the Capitol too -- both are funeral directors in Jonesboro.

Representative Bookout said that while he and his father often agree on issues, there are some differences of opinion. Senator Bookout says his son tends to be more conservative, but the father says he doesn't try to influence his son's thinking.
