SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Toyota Motors says remarks by a former San Antonio city manager about the location of a new plant are speculative.
Citing a source he wouldn't identify, former City Manager Lou Fox said in the San Antonio Express-News that San Antonio has beaten out Marion, Arkansas, for a $750 million Toyota auto assembly plant.
The director of an economic development agency for another city that courted the plant, but not from Arkansas, told him the Japanese automaker had selected a site in south Bexar County Texas.
Toyota said the location is still undecided, although a decision on where to place the plant probably will be made within the next two months.
In recent weeks, San Antonio and Marion have emerged as the likely finalists. But economic development leaders in both cities were skeptical of Fox's claim.
Kay Brockwell, Marion's economic development director, said Toyota officials have given no signal that the company's search is done or even nearing a close.
