LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- More legislation to remove the state sales tax from food was filed today.

The bill from Senator Denny Altes of Fort Smith, would reduce the gross receipts tax on groceries by 50 percent starting July 1 of next year.

The rest of the tax would be dropped a year later. Local taxes on food would remain. As of July first 2005 the bill would exempt food from the one eighth cent excise tax levied under Amendment 75.
