CBS Sports recognizes ASU players

JONESBORO (8/10/09) - Arkansas State senior kicker Josh Arauco (Grand Prairie, Texas), senior defensive end Alex Carrington (Tupelo, Miss.) and senior running back Reggie Arnold (Little Rock, Ark.) have been named to CBS Sports preseason All-Sun Belt Conference football team, released Monday on

ASU, which reported for its fall camp Aug. 5 and opens the season Sept. 5 with a home game against Mississippi Valley State, was predicted to finish second in the 2009 Sun Belt Conference race according to the article released by CBS Sports. also announced its Sun Belt Conference All-Decade team, which includes former Arkansas State standouts Tyrell Johnson (safety, 2004-07) and Matt Mandich (offensive line, 2005-08).  Johnson was the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Mandich was a four-time all-conference selection.

Carrington is the 2009 preseason Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and is on the Lott Trophy, Lombardi Award and Ted Hendricks Award watch lists.

Not only is Arnold a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, he has also been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List for the third straight year.

Arauco, a 2008 finalist for the Lou Groza Award, holds the Arkansas State career record for field goals made.

All three players have been named preseason All-America by and all-conference by Sporting News, Lindy's, Athlon's and Phil Steele's preseason football publications.
