Former teacher's licensed permanently revoked

Jonesboro (KAIT) -  One Region 8 man will never teach again.

The State Education Board decided to permanently revoke the teaching license of former Brookland teacher, Stephen Vaughn.

Vaughn, former band teacher, is currently serving an eleven year prison sentence for his 2007 assault of Brookland superintendent Kevin McGaughey.

While dressed in a Santa Claus costume, Vaughn entered the McGaughey residence carrying a box wrapped as  a Christmas present.  He pointed a handgun at McGaughey, his wife, and his son, and ordered them to get on the floor.  After a struggle, McGaughey was able to get the gun away from Vaughn.

The "Christmas present" turned out to hold a container of gasoline and a cigarrette lighter.

Vaughn was charged with first-degree battery and aggravated residential burglary.
