CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) - A suspected shoplifter is chased and tased after the brief foot pursuit, according to Caruthersville Police.

According to the news release, Caruthersville officers responded to Jiffy Jim's in reference to a shoplifter at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Officers reported that employees pointed out the suspect, 43-year-old Beronica Lewis of Caruthersville, who they then say ran.

Police say after a brief foot pursuit, a taser was used to stop Lewis, who was then arrested.

Lewis is charged with stealing, resisting arrest, willfully opposing police and possession of marijuana.

In addition to these charges, Caruthersville Police say Lewis had three outstanding warrants in Pemiscot County: driving while intoxicated, driving while revoked and criminal nonsupport. Police also say Lewis has an outstanding warrant for criminal nonsupport in Scott County, as well as an additional warrant for the same charge in Wayne County.

Lewis is being held in Pemiscot County jail with a total bond of $18,279.50, according to Caruthersville City Marshal, Chief Chris Riggs.
