Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) -

The US Department of Agriculture estimates that a US family will spend an average of $11,000 a year on their children.

But now moms-to-be are saving money and learning valuable information all at once with a free resource called the Happy Birthday Baby Book.

The Healthy Baby program encourages women to seek early and continuous prenatal care in order to reduce the chances of preterm birth, infant mortality and serious, chronic health problems related to preterm births. In Arkansas only 78.44 percent (30,764) of pregnant women receive prenatal care in their first trimester, compared to 83.9 percent nationally.

The free Happy Birthday Baby Book contains a month-by-month pregnancy planner offering information regarding mom's health and welfare, in addition to fetal and early infancy development information. Expectant mothers are also given information regarding health insurance, WIC, immunizations and well-child check-ups. The Happy Birthday Baby Book contains coupons for free or discounted merchandise such as milk, diapers, lotion, baby clothing, personal items for the mother-to-be and much more. But in order to use the coupons, they must get them validated at the doctor's office.
