ST. LOUIS (AP) - The National Park Service has extended the public comment period on proposals to manage the use of Ozark National Scenic Riverways national park in southern Missouri.
Park service officials say problems on the park's Web site may have prevented some people from submitting comments by the July 31 deadline. They say they have received 874 comments electronically and more than 1,000 on paper. The new deadline is Sept. 11.
The Park Service says it will meet this fall with groups to try to reach consensus on "diametrically opposed" positions on use of the 45-year-old park.
Superintendent Reed Detring says he hopes to complete the park planning by 2012.
