WILLIAMSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A 60-year-old man has drowned in the Black River in southeast Missouri and alcohol is believed to have had a role.
Authorities say Monty Balthrope and a friend had been boating Saturday in the Black River. Afterwards, Balthrope stayed near a ramp while his friend went to get his truck to load the boat.
When the friend returned, he found Balthrope missing. He found him in the water, pulled him out and tried to resuscitate him. He was later pronounced dead.
Butler County Coroner Jim Akers said he has ruled out heart attack. He said it is highly likely that alcohol was involved.
