Ill-conceived strategy put Martin in jeopardy

JONESBORO,A(KAIT) - Batesville native Mark Martin is clinging to the last spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.  At Sunday's Carfax 400, Martin ran out of fuel on the final lap, and Martin coasted across the finish line in 31st place. He lost a position in the standings, and-worse still-now leads 13th-place Brian Vickers, Sunday's race winner, by 12 points.

Sporting News writer Reid Spencer talks about the risky strategy and the possible devastating effects that it will play on Martin's chances to make the Chase.
