MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Neighbors say the Beverly Hills area of Memphis, near Bartlett, is a far cry from its California namesake. But the murder committed inside 2840 Beverly Hills Road was more disturbing than most.
"I'm, like, scared to come out at night now," neighbor Johnnie Marie Jackson said.
Thursday, Jackson remained surprised by the brutality, but relieved 35 year-old Robert Granito was finally charged some three days after the murder.
According to the Affidavit of Complaint, "Robert Allan Granito picked up a sword and told 27 year-old Adonis Benson to leave the house." Upon his refusal, Granito, "stabbed Benson with the sword and then started chopping him."
Granito is accused to following the bleeding Benson through parts of the house, and then, "outside on the carport and was steadily stabbing Adonis Benson."
Three men working to clean up the crime scene refused to answer questions from the end of the driveway. They have yet to clean-up the yellow tape still strung across the front yard. It appears Granito knew the man he's accused of stabbing to death. But neighbors say they rarely saw him.
"All I know since I've been here is that he's a real quiet guy," Jackson said. "I don't see him out talking to anybody. He's, like, to himself."
It is unclear what set off the argument inside the house which resulted in the second murder this month involving a sword.
