CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A typical lunch at Cape Central High School costs about $2 and that can add up quickly for families struggling to make ends meet.
Cape district director of nutrition services, Lisa Elfrink, says applications for this program have increased by the hundreds.  Even though application numbers have increased immensely, students qualifying for the program have remained about the same.
Dr. Cowan, principal at Cape Central, says in his cafeteria he has definitely seen the number of students increase.  Cowan says he is glad to see more kids applying for the program because a good meal really translates into good things in the classroom.
