Teen identified in Texarkana car burglaries case

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - A 14-year-old faces several charges related to numerous car burglaries in Texarkana.

The 14-year-old has been identified by Texarkana, Texas Police as Obed Escareno of Tyler, Texas.

Early Wednesday morning police responded to the 500 block of Belt Road after residents said they saw several suspects breaking into cars. Witnesses gave police a description of the thieves and the car they were driving.

Just before 6:00 am, officers spotted the vehicle. Three suspects ran when police arrived, but officers did detain a 14-year-old. Inside the car, police said they found over 40 different pieces of electronic equipment, including stereos, cell phones, a GPS device and digital cameras.

The teen was arrested for vehicle burglary and violating curfew.

Escareno now faces charges of Burglary of a vehicle with two or more previous convictions, engaging in organized criminal activity and evading arrest or detention.
