ASU completes fall camp

JONESBORO, AR - With classes scheduled to begin Monday, the Arkansas State football team completed its 2009 fall camp with a Saturday morning practice in full pads inside ASU Stadium.

The Red Wolves reported for fall camp on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and held their first of 18 practices the following Friday.

"Overall, I was real pleased with fall camp," ASU head coach Steve Roberts said.  "It was as good as we have had since I have been here."

Outside of meetings, ASU will take Sunday off before resuming practices Monday.  The team will have six practices practices next week, including one Saturday as part of its annual Fan Appreciation Day.  The Red Wolves will then have their first set of game-week practices leading up to their season opener at ASU Stadium against Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 5.

ASU took the field at 10:00 a.m. this morning for a practice that featured several team segments, including a final full-contact team period that focused on situations the team might face late in a game. ASU also worked on several other phases of the game during the other team segments, including various down-and-distance scenarios and red zone situations.

I was pleased with some of the stuff we did defensively," said Roberts.  "We did some stuff well offensively, we just weren't sharp enough and we've got to get better."

ASU will practice Monday at 3:30 p.m.
