LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A state representative from Forrest City wants quick action on an economic development bill he hopes could lure a Toyota plant to east Arkansas.
Representative Danny Ferguson's bill would update some incentives to base tax breaks on total payroll rather than average wages. It also include other incentives.
Senators Steve Bryles of Blytheville and Jerry Bookout, of Jonesboro are handling the legislation for Governor Huckabee in the Senate. The bill does not include a pool of money sought by the governor for attracting big industry.
A site near Marion is reportedly one of four under serious consideration by Toyota for a plant that would build light trucks.
State Economic Development Director Jim Pickens said most legislators support the package.
