Cash for clunkers shuts down, cash for appliances gears up

WASHINGTON, DC (WFLX) - As the government shuts down the popular Cash for Clunkers program, it's gearing up for it's next stimulus program.

The program will pay you for getting rid of some of those old appliances in your home. Stimulus money will pay for rebates between $50 and $200 to encourage people to get rid of older appliances and replace them with ones that are more energy efficient.

Consumer Reports says in order to get a rebate, the new appliance would have to have an Energy Star seal. The department of energy says all 50 states have applied for the program, and it's expected to kick in this fall.
