Names released in weekend deadly home invasion

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The identity of the man, who was killed in a deadly home invasion in Jonesboro, has been released by Jonesboro Police.

According to JPD, Derek Mayes broke into an apartment on Calion Street, armed with a shotgun.

Police say according to witnesses Tommie Smith got into a fight with Mayes inside the home and hit Mayes on the head with a tire iron. Mayes later died at a local hospital.

No charged have been filed, but the case is still under investigation.

Police say the next night, someone shot at the apartment where the deadly home invasion took place. Two bullet holes were found in the door to the apartment, and several car windows in the parking lot were also shattered. Police say the 2 events are connected. The shooting also remains under investigation.
